Features and Benefits of Merhow's Trailers

Standard trailer height on our straight load trailers is 7'6”, which allows for more room, easier access, and safety for your horses.

We design our trailers to fit a vast majority of horse breeds.

Straight load trailers are 6’2” wide with a standing stall length of 7'
XL straight load trailers are 7’ wide with a standing stall length of 90”
Slant load trailers are 82" wide with a stall length of 10'.
Eight foot widths are also available. (All dimensions are modifiable.)

Alumastar & Verylite: Our aluminum, interlocking, extruded floor is supported with 2 x 4 I-beam cross members that are spaced on 12” centers throughout the length of the trailer – it easily supports the weight of a truck. For additional strength, our 8’ wide axle carriage is made from tubular steel.

Alumastar & Verylite: To provide you and your horses with maximum protection, lasting quality, and a high resale value, our trailers are built using an all-aluminum, cage-welded, unibody construction using tubular supports that have no more than 16” of center spacing. We do not use inferior c-channels or hat channels in the construction of our trailers.

Equistar: The Equistar features a steel chassis and a strong, tubular steel cage; all other components are aluminum. Treated wood floorboards are spaced apart to provide good drainage and preserve long life. In addition, the entire chassis is undercoated top and bottom and all tube ends are capped.

Easier Towability: We use Torflex rubber ride axles with NEV’R Lube Hubs and NEV’R Adjust Electric Brakes on all four wheels in order to provide you with lower maintenance and better braking. (E-Z Lube Hubs on 3,500 lb. axles)

To allow easier hitching to the tow vehicle we moved the side crank jack to the rear of the A-frame on all bumper pulls. You can even use the tailgate when the trailer is hitched.

Our one-piece aluminum roof eliminates roof seams and is sealed with a self-leveling adhesive that stays pliable and does not dry out.

Verylite & Equistar: The exterior aluminum skin is secured with 3M VHB, very high bond two-faced tape. This provides a better seal, cleaner appearance (no mechanical fasteners), and allows the aluminum skin to expand and contract with temperature changes.

Drop down feed windows provide maximum ventilation for your horses. All slant load trailers feature 32" x 26" drop down feed windows (Equistar and Alumastar) or 32" x 26" extruded aluminum drop down feed doors (Verylite) with center latches and independent face guards.

Escape Door: All three horse and larger slant load trailers offer a standard escape door at the first stall to make your Merhow more user friendly and horse friendly.

To eliminate noisy, hard to open doors, all of our access doors and ramps have hinges that are either permanently lubricated or have grease fittings.

For extra protection, even on the darkest of nights, our VeryLite and Equistar features 14 exterior LED clearance lights, 4-sealed beam flush mounted LED taillights, and a lighted license plate bracket.

MERHOW INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION

Bright Interiors: The interior of our trailers is bright, open and insulated. We install closed cell foam insulation in the stall walls to keep your horses cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Stall walls are covered with a white, baked-enamel interior liner that covers the full height of the walls. The liner is attached to the frame with aluminum, powder-coated fasteners. Using an aluminum interior liner provides you with maximum corrosion protection and makes the stall area smoother, quieter, and safer for both you and your horses.

To provide maximum equine protection and to keep your trailer looking sharp, we line the stall walls with rubber – up 36” high on straight load trailers and 48” high on slant load trailers.

All dividers and chest doors are made from tubular aluminum, which is lighter in weight and cannot rust.

Safety: Our trailers come standard with the maximum combination of protection and control for you and your horses. We use heavy-duty padding and slam latches on all dividers in our slant load trailers, and our straight load trailers feature heavy-duty padding and 8" tall padded breast doors with slam latches.

Rear Tack: Our slant loads feature a standard rear tack with a collapsible and removable wall, removable saddletree (1 per stall up to 4), (8) bridle hooks, blanket bars, and brush box. In order to help protect your valuable tack and reduce interior nose, our rear tack sidewall is carpeted.

Versatility: Your trailer should be as useful as possible; therefore, all our trailers feature a removable center post and removable divider(s).

All horse doors feature a two-point cam latch, which secures the door at both the top and the bottom to provide a more secure closure.

We believe that traveling in your Merhow trailer should be a pleasurable experience for both you and your horse. That is why we include the “little extras” as standard features in every trailer we build.
